Raising Funds, Awareness and Setting a New World Record!
On his way to setting a new world record, Adam Stanton-Wharmby is a voice for justice and a catalyst for change.  A powered wheelchair user living with Cerebral Palsy, Adam has spent the last five years raising funds for several charities by completing a series of Wheel Power Challenges, during which he’s driven his power chair from city to city. Including missions from Birmingham to Manchester, Cheltenham to Cardiff and along the London Marathon route.
An organisation close to his heart.
Like most events during the seemingly endless pandemic, his most recent Wheel Power Challenge was sadly postponed. But now that restrictions have lifted, Adam is ready for his next challenge, travelling from Lands End to John O’Groats (#JOGLE) in March 2023. The trip will last approximately 22 days, smashing the current world record!
“This time I am raising money for Whizz-Kidz, a charity very close to my heart. Whizz-Kidz is the working name of The Movement for Non-Mobile Children (registered charity No. 802872). They work tirelessly to transform the lives of wheelchair users across the UK, supporting them to become confident and independent young adults. I have volunteered for them as a wheelchair skills trainer, supporting the ambassador clubs and Whizz-Kidz camps.”
Formula 1 Mercedes Team kindly Modify Adam’s Power Chair.
During Adam’s last challenge from Cheltenham to Silverstone, a Formula One charity , Grid4Good got in touch the Mercedes Formula One Team about his chair being modified by the team to help him complete his next route. This was the first ever powered wheelchair to be worked on by a Formula One Team, you can read about it here.
Donating the Tru-Comfort 2 Stealth Cushion to Adam.
So, with a souped-up power chair, Adam needed superior seating & positioning and reached out to us at Stealth UK to find out what we could offer him. Given the longevity of his challenges, we knew it was best to supply him with a Tru-Comfort 2 Cushion and met with Adam in person to find the right fit for him before donating one to him. The Tru-Comfort 2 cushion is part of the Skin Protection & Positioning range at Stealth and features a deep contoured, high-density moulded foam base, Coolcore Technology cover as standard, easy-pull rubber loop zipper handles on both sides and comes in a range of sizes.
Why the Tru-Comfort 2 Cushion is Perfect for Adam.
The deep contour allows the cushion to adhere to the body while the high-density foam keeps the position firm, forming unrivalled support for the many miles of travel. Coolcore technology in the cover aids in long-lasting, durable sweat reduction and temperature control. This will be ideal for Adam as it will prevent any potential discomfort and chaffing cause by continuous use. As he said when he tested it out “With the Stealth cushion, I’m really sat where I want to be”
Perfect positioning for Adam, here’s how you can support him…
You can show Adam your support by donating to his Just Giving page or follow along with the adventure on his Instagram: @challenge.adam or Twitter: @challengeadam83. We’re looking forward to catching up with him along his route in March and wish him all the best with this amazing endeavour!
